Press Release: Ohio Brewers Win Big On World Stage

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Ohio craft brewers continued to post impressive results at the 2018 World Beer Cup competition, held May 3 in conjunction with the annual Craft Brewers Conference.  The Ohio delegation won a total of ten awards at the world’s most prestigious brewing competition.

Fat Head’s Brewery in Middleburg Heights scored two medals. AlpenGlow was the big winner of the evening, taking the gold for South German-style Weizenbock. Midnight Moonlight earned a silver medal, the second consecutive award in the American-Style Black Ale category. This marks the fourth consecutive competition that Fat Head’s has taken home a medal.

Three more Ohio breweries added to their World Beer Cup medal collections. Fifty West Brewing in Cincinnati captured another award for the 10 & 2 Barleywine, winning silver in the Barley Wine-Style Ale category after taking gold in the 2016 competition. Columbus Brewing Company took home bronze in the Mixed Culture Brett Beer category with TBD Peach Sour, the brewery’s first-ever sour beer. Little Fish Brewing Company in Athens won their second World Beer Cup medal, a bronze for Petit Poisson in the Wood- and Barrel-Aged Sour Beer category.

Five Ohio breweries earned their first honors at this year’s competition: Millersburg Brewing Co. in Millersburg, Platform Beer Co. in Cleveland, Fretboard Brewing Co. in Blue Ash, Taft’s Ale House in Cincinnati and Brink Brewing Co. in Cincinnati.
