Getting My Beer On Avery Liliko'i Kepolo Beer Review

Liliko’i Kepolo from Avery Brewing, a 5.4% ABV Witbier that brings together some of the expected spicy notes of this style and places on it a nice fruity twist highlighted in the aroma and the taste. For me, I have enjoyed this previously on draft and decided to check it out in the can, which still provided a nice delight of this beer. There are qualities of tart, fruitiness, tropical, sweet, sour and even astringency and some acidity involved with this one. I guess I can say there are many things happening with this one, but all good from my opinion. Now an all year offering, this beer is a nice one to try for sure if the aforementioned qualities appeal to you, and you like a nice fruity and somewhat spice note beer. Getting My Beer On Dogfish Head Dragons & YumYums

Dragons & YumYums from Dogfish Head Craft Brewery is an American Pale Ale that done with the collaboration of the music group, The Flaming Lips, is a tart American Pale Ale brewed with dragon fruit, yumberry, passionfruit, pear juice and black carrot juice. Now, I know what you are thinking…Is this something that was dreamt up out of Game of Thrones or Lord of The Rings. Honestly, I could not tell you, but I can tell you that this 6.5%ABV and 25 IBU Ale is something different.

There should have been a lot going on with this beer from the ingredients used, but for me, in the end, I almost feel like maybe there was too much. While the beer did offer a nice tart and refreshing quality, the pear did not seem to be there as much. In addition, the duration of the flavor was shorter lived than expected, which I expected would be longer considering said ingredients. It does still have some fruitiness going for it though, and considering the ABV it is a nice light-bodied beer making it not so bad for summer. There is also some of the piney tone often affiliated with pale ales, and the finish is nice and crisp. However, in the end, is it a decent enough beer but is it worth the cost and pick-up, well I will leave that up to you. Check out the video to see and hear more of my thoughts on this one.

I was able to recently attend a beer tasting at DEP's Fine Wine and Spirits with Mile Wide Beer Company based out of Louisville, Kentucky. Here is a look at some of the beers that we had except one which was on tap. It was a fun night indeed and looking forward to drinking more of their brews.

Getting My Beer On Music City Light Beer Review

Music City Light is from the Music City Beer Company, which is located in Nashville, Tennessee. Makenzie Clayburg, who works with them through one of the publicity agencies, recently brought the brewery to my attention. She reached out to see if I would like to check out their beer after providing me with their backstory of how local musicians and venue owners started it as a local brew and what they call the “Backstage Pass To Nashville.” This said, after a couple of more emails here is the beer.

Now, I do not usually drink many light beers but have from time to time. In addition, all have been from the macro breweries, so I did have some reservations going in. However, one of the things noted when I received the initial email was how they were looking to bridge the gap between craft beers and the mass-produced domestics, so that I did find appealing. But it is a light beer, right? How much more could it offer?

Well, the beer itself is an American Light Lager with an ABV of 4.2% and no listing was there for IBU, but it is definitely a low number on that side. Going in I expected some thinness and surprisingly the beer did well providing a nice light body experience and not really much thinness at all. It went down very easy with a nice refreshing quality and did well with the amount of flavor duration received. There was the sweetness that as to be expected for this style as well as the yeastiness in the aroma and taste. But that is just part of the style, but I did like on the back end that there was a slight tasting of the hops as well. It proved to be a decent clean beer with some crushable quality to it, and as far as being a decent lager, it was that for sure. Overall, I found this one to be a decent beer for what it is and for what they were going for. If you are in the Nashville area and you are a lager fan, then I would say to try it.
