Beer Review: Sierra Nevada Hazy Little Thing IPA

Sometimes I wonder and maybe you do as well, if sometimes in the beer world if breweries can sometimes fall to the current trends and let them sometimes drive their cart so to speak. The crowd is all moving in one direction and then the breweries start making the latest possible “fad’ style of beer to draw them back. Doing so may take them away from other styles in which they are better, but I guess it may be the price to also pay when trying to stay relevant in the market.

This has been the case over the last couple or maybe few years depending where you are, and with the birth of the New England Style IPA. This being said, I am not saying that The New England Style IPA is a fad, but it is the hottest thing it seems and now we are seeing more of the larger well known craft breweries setting their sights on this relatively new style.

Hazy Little Thing is one of the newer offerings from Sierra Nevada within the last few months, and is a New England Style IPA that comes in with an alcohol content of 6.7% ABV and 40 IBU. It is also the subject of my latest review here. Mentioned as unfiltered and unprocessed and straight to the can, this ale does seem to be making a splash from all that I’ve seen previously. So obviously the beer had me curious to see how Sierra Nevada did with pulling off this style.

I was pleased off the bat with the appearance and aroma of the beer although the notes were lighter than others that I have had in this style. Flavor was okay and decent enough and it sat well in my palate with a decent amount of juiciness and citrus quality. It did come across to me being more light bodied and it had a nice refreshing quality, but placed against others I have had in this style a difference was definitely there. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though as I think they did a solid enough job with it which is why I scored this one an 80. Not a bad step into the foray of this style, but there is some room to grow as well versus the more well-known others.

Beer Review: Samuel Smith Organic Pale Ale

The Organic Pale Ale from Samuel Smith’s Old Brewery is the subject here of my latest beer review. This beer is almost like a walk into the past for me as it really does incorporate its history into its taste. Coming in with an alcohol content of 5% ABV, this falls right into my session wheelhouse. Brewed with water, organic malted barley, organic hops and yeast, this beer shows that sometimes the basics are all that you need.

In breaking down the beer, I found it still have a solid presence even though time has caught up with it some. It was smooth and went down easy for the most part, and after a long day’s work it did well hitting the spot. The flavor with its balance of the hops and malts stood out more to me and made it very palatable, although the appearance was also eye pleasing. I would have preferred more with the aroma, but overall it was decent enough and I ended up scoring it an 80 as a solid beer.

And if you have had this one then please, leave a comment or a thought about your experience with it. Beer Review: Rogue Ales & Spirits Sriracha Stout

A past beer run brought me across this red devil of a brew. I usually like Sriracha on things, but in beer? Now in all fairness, I have seen this beer numerous times and just left it alone. However this time and the fact that it was a pretty good deal, I decided let’s do this and into the basket it went.

The Sriracha Stout from Rogue Ales & Spirits is a stout, yes, fermented with the hot chili sauce that many of us have come to know. The beer carries an alcohol content of 5.7% ABV and an IBU level of 55. So one could expect some bitterness in the taste, which isn’t uncommon for a stout. For me, I did find it to have some spicy notes for sure but it wasn’t overly spicy. However, it is different and for some I can see it being a possible struggle with this one so with it being in a 22 ounce bottle, one may want to being a friend for sharing. But all in all, I was able to found some satisfaction with the beer in the appearance and aroma, and this led me to an overall rating of an 80 for this one.

Check out my video though to see and hear more of my views on this ale and remember there’s always time, so Get Your Beer On! Cheers!

Beer Review: Stillwater Artisanal Hopvine Bling

Stillwater Artisanal decided to get together with Hudson Valley Brewery and the result of Hopvine Bling was the result. This sour Berliner Weisse comes in with an alcohol content of 5% ABV and is dry-hopped as well as fermented with Sauvignon Blanc Grapes. So how did this one play out for me?

The beer itself came together nicely in its characteristics providing almost a nice wine feel. The grapes were able to provide a nice feature in the flavor and the smoothness of it made it a very easy beer to down. Again it is a Berliner Weisse, so the sour also comes through but it wasn’t overly sour and the body was light with the texture being somewhat dry. In all the beer was a nice one to enjoy which lead me to an overall rating of 85 with this one. See more if my thoughts on this one by also checking out my video here on YouTube!

Cheers!
