Getting My Beer On With Thin Man Minkey Boodle

Big thanks to my friend Joe, who shot me this beer from Thin Man Brewery. Minkey Boodle is a Sour Ale that is aged on raspberries. Inside this purplish pinkish beer goodness is a 7.8% ABV just waiting to sneak up on the unsuspecting, and it will definitely catch some that just are engulfed by its smoothness. Love the tartness, which is there but subtle enough that it does not take away from other aspects of the beer. There is a nice crisp refreshing quality to the ale as well, but astringency, as well as acidity, is both low making it an ale where more than can easily be consumed in a sitting. Well worth checking out for any sour beer fan, and once again thanks Joe. Check out the video to see and hear more of my thoughts, and if you have had this beer then let me know what you thought of it as well.

Getting My Beer On With Ballast Point Victory At Sea

The Ballast Point Victory At Sea, even the name sounds robust. This Imperial Porter noted by its flavor profile of coffee and vanilla comes together very nicely. Why I had not done a review previously I have no idea. I had done the coconut version and now it is time for the base one. 10% ABV and 60 IBU highlight the ale that is now available year-round, which for me could be fitting anytime. Dark, slightly rich, smooth and highlighted by its great flavor profile, this beer just delivers in many areas for me. It is easily a favorite and has me looking forward to drinking the other varieties as well. But check out my video to hear and see more of my thoughts on this one, and if you have had it then leave a comment to let me know what you think of it.

Getting My Beer On With West Sixth Valencia Berliner Weisse

My recent visit to Lexington, Kentucky and a trip to the Liquor Barn had me come across this offering from West Sixth Brewing. The Valencia Berliner Weisse is part of West Sixth’s Limited Series of beers and is presented as a crisp and refreshing sour ale packed with the vibrancy of Valencia oranges. And I found that my experience with this ale would match that for sure, as there was nice juiciness to the beer that allowed the flavoring to come right through. While the style of this ale is sour, there was also some sweetness as well that set a nice balance. Not overly tart and low in astringency, this citrusy ale was done right. Getting My Beer On With Blue Stallion Dunkel

Back with another beer, this one is another from my recent trip to Lexington a few weeks ago. Dunkel from Blue Stallion Brewing is a Dunkel style lager that comes in with an ABV of 5.4% and an IBU of 24. Deep brown in color this beer does a nice job from appearance all the way through the aroma and taste. The abundant use of the Munich malts brought about a nice sweetness of the beer, and really brought out the nice caramel and toffee like notes. It was not too heavy of a beer and it was not too light either, as it just had a nice balance for this style. There was not as much head as expected and with the cup, I had at the hotel, I really could not pick up much lacing but that was truly minor compared to the smooth taste of the lager. This one turned out to be a little more pleasing for me, even more than expected. In the end, it was a pleasant surprise of a beer worth checking out. Speaking of checking, check out the video to see and hear more of my thoughts on this one. Also, if you have had it before then let me know what you thought by leaving a comment as well.
