Pink Boots Hop Blend Raises Awareness and Support for Gender Diversity in Brewing

YAKIMA, Wash., Dec. 10, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Each year, Yakima Chief Hops (YCH) creates the community-driven blend to benefit the Pink Boots Society (PBS), a non-profit organization with a mission to assist, inspire, and encourage women and non-binary individuals in the fermented/alcoholic beverage industry to advance their careers through education. The PBS membership performed sensory evaluations on three different blends and selected the most irresistible to be produced for brewers across the industry. The unique blend features a harmony of Simcoe®, Mosaic®, Chinook, and Krush™.

YCH partnered with women-owned farms within its network of growers to assist in creating the blend. Jessica Riel of Double 'R' Farms, Reggie Brulotte of Brulotte Farms, and Erica Lorentz of Lakeside Ranches each hand-selected their favorite lots from this year's harvest, which the YCH sensory team used to craft three compelling blends for the Pink Boots Society membership to vote on. The selected blend boasts bright grapefruit notes layered with tropical citrus, supported by lush berries and dank, woody aromas. "Opportunities like this, becoming involved with the Pink Boots Society, really drives me," says Erica Lorentz, 5th generation hop farmer and owner of Lakeside Ranches. Lorentz's Simcoe® hops are featured in the blend. "Anything that can empower women to step into roles they may not necessarily view themselves in is important," she adds.

"Incorporating women hop growers into this year's blend is inspiring. It opens new educational avenues and opportunities for additional learning experiences," says Blanca Quintero, PBS President and Highland Park Brewery General Manager. "There are many different facets within our industry, and getting more involved with the agricultural side is exciting," she adds. YCH will donate $1 from each pound sold to the Pink Boots Society, helping further its mission by providing educational resources and scholarship opportunities to its membership. The 8th Annual Pink Boots Blend is not available to ship to Canada, New Zealand, or Tawain. Brewers in these countries can reach out to their YCH sales team for more information and options on how to purchase Pink Boots Blend. Whiskey Rebellion Origin Story

The Whiskey Rebellion was a pivotal moment in American history. Whiskey Rebellion Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels is a masterpiece born from the visionary collaboration between Warped Wing Co-owner/Brewmaster John Haggerty and Century Bar Co-owner/Executive Bourbon Steward Joseph Head. This high-gravity stout celebrates the art of barrel aging, a process where time and tradition transform beer into something extraordinary. Aged in carefully selected bourbon barrels, the stout absorbs rich, complex notes of caramel, vanilla, and oak - a testament to the craftsmanship of whiskey-making. Designed to be savored, it stands as a true celebration of freedom, flavor, and the pursuit of craft perfection, nodding to the spirit of defiance.

Keynote Speakers Announced for 2025 Ohio Craft Brewers Conference

Tenth Annual Ohio Craft Brewers Conference Returns to Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Brewing industry professionals from around Ohio and across the country will convene in Columbus for the 10th annual Ohio Craft Brewers Conference presented by The Cincinnati Insurance Companies on Jan. 28-29, 2025 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. This year’s milestone conference will feature 30 educational seminars and panel discussions on a broad range of brewing industry topics.

The Ohio Craft Brewers Association organizes the annual event as part of the group’s mission to promote, preserve, diversify and unify Ohio’s craft brewing industry.

The conference features a keynote address each day in addition to seminar tracks covering technical brewing, beer sales and marketing, and business administration. There is also a specific focus on brewery startup issues, both for newly established breweries and those still in the planning stages.

Kate Bernot will deliver the first keynote address on Tuesday, Jan. 28, focusing on shifts in consumer trends in the alcohol beverage market. Bernot is the current director of the North American Guild of Beer Writers, with more than a decade of reporting and editorial experience focusing on the business of food and beverage.

The Brewers Association’s Director of Social Impact, Dr. J. Nikol Jackson-Beckham, will deliver the day two keynote on Wednesday, Jan. 29. Jackson-Beckham leads the national trade group’s efforts in diversity, equity, and inclusion, member and community engagement, high-ROI philanthropy, and association accountability.

“The craft brewing industry has undergone profound change over the past ten years,” said Ohio Craft Brewers Association executive director Mary MacDonald. “Through the brewery boom of the late 2010s, the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition to a mature craft beer market, providing up-to-date educational resources has been a great help to small and independent breweries trying to navigate shifting business currents.”

Organizers expect more than 600 industry professionals to attend this year’s event. The conference trade show will also offer 120 businesses the opportunity to exhibit their goods and services that support Ohio’s 440 independent craft breweries.

Individuals and trade show exhibitors can register for the 2025 Ohio Craft Brewers Conference at https://ohiocraftbeer.org/conferenceOhio Craft Brewers Association members receive discounts on individual registration as well as trade show exhibitor spaces. Founded in 2007, the Ohio Craft Brewers Association is a nonprofit guild that exists to promote, preserve and unify Ohio’s craft brewing industry. We aspire to be recognized as the industry leader at both state and national levels for preserving the art of making high-quality, unique craft beer; to serve as the unified voice for craft brewers across the state; to advocate on behalf of the Ohio craft beer industry; to contribute to systemic, local community development by driving economic and job growth, while creating experiences that bring people together; to promote safe, responsible enjoyment of Ohio craft beer; and to serve as a beacon for local production and manufacturing through craft beer, resulting in diverse choices for consumers.
