Beer Review: Revolution Brewing Anti-Hero

Anti-Hero is the flagship IPA of Revolution Brewing out of Chicago, Illinois and of course now the subject of my latest review. It is an all year offering that comes in with an ABV of 6.7% along with an IBU level of 65. For me this one can be best described as a solid IPA that delivers mainly on the flavor and palate more than anything else. Appearance and aroma were a little less than expected, but overall I found it pleasing enough to score it an 81 for me.

Press Release: Brewers Association Appoints Four String Brewmaster to Board

Larry Horwitz Appointed to Brewers Association Board of Directors

Four String brewmaster selected for at-large seat.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Brewers Association (BA) board of directors appointed Larry Horwitz of Four String Brewing Company to one of its two at-large seats. Horwitz and Jose Mallea of Biscayne Bay Brewing in Miami, Florida will each serve a two-year term on the board of the national not-for-profit craft brewers organization.


Horwitz is currently seated on the Ohio Craft Brewers Association (OCBA) board of directors, serving on the advocacy, education, finance and governance committees. He is also a member of the BA Technical Committee and serves on the Quality and Safety subcommittees. Horwitz is a past president of the Master Brewers Association of the Americas District Philadelphia, a position held while brewing at Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant in Philadelphia.

“Larry is a thoughtful and effective member of the OCBA board and has helped to guide the direction of our organization to the benefit of all Ohio craft breweries,” said Mary MacDonald, executive director of the OCBA. “We have no doubt that his insight and experience will be of tremendous value to the BA board as well.”

The BA board guides the strategic direction of the organization and governs the activities of the professional division of the BA, as well as the American Homebrewers Association, Brewers Publications and BA events including the Great American Beer Festival, Craft Brewers Conference & BrewExpo Americaand SAVOR.

“With the craft brewing community continuing to grow to more than 6,000 small and independent craft brewers across the country, it is imperative for the board to continue to reflect the interests of brewers of all sizes and ensure that even the smallest voices are heard,” said Rob Tod, board chair, Brewers Association. “In the face of many exciting opportunities and challenges, this is a dynamic time to be a small and independent brewer. I look forward to working alongside our new colleagues to continue making this a great industry, both for those who work in it and the beer lovers who get to enjoy it.”

The BA will seat its new board members on February 21, 2018.

Beer Review: Penn Brewery Penn IPA

The Penn IPA is an American IPA from Penn Brewery that carries an ABV of 7% and an IBU level of 70. It also is one of the beers that I had picked up on a previous beer run to West Virginia, and the subject of this latest review. Going in I didn’t know anything about the brewery, but figured why not pick it up and give it a shot. As far as being a beer, it came out as being solid enough that I cored it a 74 out of 100 overall, not a standout but not disappointing as well. Across the board it was okay enough in the key aspects that matter and check out my video to see more of the finer details that I share. Cheers!

Creating Beer Head When Served With None

So, I was recently served a beer while out that actually was lacking in the head area. This
means all of the gasses and proteins were just lying there in the beer
unreleased and not doing so would lead to potential bloating down the line as I
drank through this beer. So check out my video to see a little trick to avoid
this and please all you establishment owners and managers teach and train your
people how to pour a proper beer. There are definitely too many that still
don't know how to do this correctly.
