The Razz Wheat from Jackie O’s Pub & Brewery, which is just one more nice brewery that sits up the highway from me in Athens, Ohio. I can’t really call it local, so I’ll call it regional. Jackie O’s tends to put out some good beers in my opinion and this one is no different. This wheat ale fermented with all natural raspberry puree carries a nice ABV of 5.5% and for me it really did have a nice smoothness to it. The flavor came through nicely and it wasn’t overly fruity as it hit just right enough on the sweetness level of the beer. This one would stand out more in the warmer months with the flavor brought out, but a solid palatable beer nonetheless that can be enjoyed the full year round. Chalk this one up as an 85 for me on my scale.

So just recently, Melvin Brewing has found themselves caught up in a snafu as to what they thought was a joke has now seemed to go wrong. Social media has been fast in responding to what they see as an issue, but I am not going to get into that as much here. There are plenty of pieces now addressing this on the internet so much can be found for sure. But, my question to address in responding is more about what still seems to be a mistake that keeps on happening, and that is that not knowing what can happen from “on” or “over” the line marketing.
The PSA from MadTree Brewing is a session pale ale that comes in with an alcohol content of 4.5% ABV along with an IBU level of 30. Developed using three hops and five malts, the beer does come together nicely with a good balance that I enjoyed throughout the drinking of the beer. The appearance was decent, but the aroma and flavor especially how it sat on my palate was even better. Sometimes session ales can have provided a less than expected experience for me, and this beer avoided that for me. It gave me what I wanted for a pale ale at a lower abv, making it a nice one that can be enjoyed while kicking back and without worrying about getting hammered. The Peach Dodo from one of my local breweries, Rhinegeist, is a peach Gose that carries an alcohol content of 4.4% ABV and a low IBU of 12. I ended up picking the one on a beer run as an individual beer to see how it was which is always a good thing when possible to and have any questions about a certain beer or style. This one for the most part I found to be a solid enough beer. It had a good appearance and sat well enough on my palate. The aroma was okay although a little lacking despite providing a nice note of the peaches, and the flor provided was good on the initial and finish but duration did fade in a short period of time. One thing also about this beer too is that is quite chuggable, so it did go down pretty easy. Overall, no real complaints about this ale as it scored out as a 75 for me in the end. Recently, I had a chance to check out the M-43 from Old Nation Brewing thanks to my buddy Eric and in follow-up to previously having their Boss Tweed. A nice appearance along with a great aroma and flavor, not to mention great mouthfeel and body made this beer nice palatable. Place that with good notes of tropical and citrus and its smooth milkshake like texture and this one became an easy one to enjoy. Finally as for my rating, this one gets a “good choice” score of an 87 from me and I would definitely drink it again.

So BrewDog had the idea to create a Pink IPA and decided to label it beer for girls, but things seem to not be going as well as expected. Maybe it would have been good to maybe ask some women ahead of time about their thoughts...just maybe.

From MadTree Brewing here in Cincinnati, Ohio, this is my look at Lift which is a Kölsch style ale that comes in at 4.7% ABV and 11 IBU. Refreshing and crisp, this beer is what I needed after a long day of work. Subtle citrus flavor throughout this smooth offering, made me had to pace this one to avoid just chugging it down. A nice lighter profile accompanies this ale which uses 4 malts and 4 hops that come together for a nice balance. For anyone looking to jump from macro to craft, a Kölsch provides a pleasant way to do so. This one was pretty solid from its appearance all the way through and its one that for me scored a “good choice” 81. Courtesy of a piece done by Food & Wine, I decided to take a look at the highlighting of the craft beers now to be found on various airlines. Flying often requires a certain amount of comfortability and it seems the airlines are noticing this with beer as they are stepping up their game to provide craft beer options, very nice on their part I must say. From Michigan’s Old Nation Brewing Company comes Boss Tweed NE DIPA, a 9.3% ABV 68 IBU New England Style Double IPA and it is the feature of this latest review. Thanks to my buddy Eric for sending this to me and make sure to check out his YouTube channel where he also discusses beers among some other things. But this beer is one that I have been looking forward to trying and seeing how it lived up to the hype of what I was hearing and seeing, and it really didn’t disappoint.
From appearance to aroma to taste and all else involved, this beer provided a nice overall package leading to me scoring it a 91. Carrying somewhat of a smooth milkshake quality, the beer was creamy and smooth in texture. The juiciness of it easily came through, making it one that if not careful will easily be chugged away. Tropical and citrus notes easily poured out with the aroma, and the appearance was that nice haziness which makes the style. This is definitely one worth trying for any fan of this style, and thanks again to my buddy Eric for sending.

Boom Sauce from Lord Hobo Brewing is a New England style IPA from the Massachusetts brewer and the subject of this latest review. Coming in with an ABV of 7.8% and an IBU of 78, this beer definitely has had a lot of hype around it and so I was looking forward to checking it out to see how it compares.
Highlighted by a nice golden straw color, the beer did hit on many things of the style. It wasn’t as juicy as some of the others that I have had from the style, but it was juicy enough and carried a nice refreshing quality to it. The six hops used did create a nice balance and the bitterness does come through making you feel the level of the IBUs. But all in all, the beer provided a nice overall experience as well as a nice palatable experience, leading me to a total score of 86 for this one.
