Lagunitas Celebrates International Women’s Day with Free Tattoos Inspired by Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’
Craft beer and art have always gone hand-in-hand, but Lagunitas Brewing Company is taking that connection to a whole new level. In celebration of International Women's Day, the brewery is funding free tattoos for fans across the country—turning their iconic beer artwork into permanent pieces of body art.
And yes… it’s all inspired by one of Lagunitas’ most recognizable beers.
The Return of Millie Inspires a New Creative Collaboration
Back in 2009, Lagunitas introduced one of its most beloved beers, Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale. Along with its hoppy yet smooth profile, the beer became instantly recognizable thanks to its playful and iconic “Millie” can artwork.
When Lagunitas brought the original Millie artwork back in 2024, fans responded in a big way. The enthusiasm surrounding the return showed just how connected the beer community can be—not only to the beer itself, but also to the art that represents it.
Now that connection is inspiring something even more personal.
Lagunitas has commissioned four female tattoo artists from around the country to reinterpret the Millie design into custom tattoo flash sheets. The result is a unique mix of beer culture, artistic expression, and individuality that fans can literally wear on their sleeves.
Supporting Female Tattoo Artists
One of the driving ideas behind the project is representation in the tattoo industry.
While research shows that women are more likely than men to have tattoos, they remain significantly underrepresented as tattoo artists. Women account for roughly 25% of tattoo artists and only about 5% of tattoo shop owners nationwide.
Lagunitas decided to use this campaign not just as a promotion—but as a way to support female artists and highlight their creativity.
According to Lagunitas CMO Hannah Dray, the goal is to celebrate individuality while investing in the artists who shape culture and creative expression.
That philosophy lines up pretty well with what craft beer has always been about: creativity, community, and people doing things their own way.
The Artists Behind the Ink
Four artists from major cities across the U.S. were selected for the collaboration, each bringing their own style and interpretation of the Millie artwork.
San Francisco – Mary Joy Scott
Known for bold lines and playful illustrative work, Mary Joy Scott’s tattoos blend modern design with expressive character work.
Los Angeles – Amelia Rose
Amelia Rose is known for fine-line tattoos that mix delicate detail with strong visual storytelling.
Chicago – Julia Campione
Julia Campione’s work focuses heavily on expressive characters and imaginative tattoo designs.
New York City – Becca Genne-Bacon
Becca Genne-Bacon merges classic tattoo traditions with contemporary storytelling in her designs.
How Fans Can Get a Free Tattoo
Here’s where things get really interesting.
On March 13, fans can book appointments at participating tattoo shops in the four cities listed above. If they select one of the Lagunitas flash designs created by these artists, Lagunitas will cover the cost of the tattoo.
There is a catch, though.
Only the first 10 appointments at each location will receive the tattoo for free, and spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
For fans of Lagunitas—or for anyone who loves unique tattoo art—it’s a pretty cool opportunity to score a one-of-a-kind design tied to a legendary craft beer brand.
Beer, Art, and Self-Expression
Lagunitas has always leaned heavily into individuality and creativity, and this campaign feels like a natural extension of that mindset.
By combining craft beer culture, tattoo art, and support for female artists, the brewery is creating something that goes beyond a typical marketing promotion. It’s a celebration of expression—whether that’s through brewing beer, creating art, or choosing what you want to permanently ink on your skin.
And if that tattoo happens to feature Millie from Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’, even better.
Final Sip 🍺
I always enjoy seeing breweries do things that connect beer with broader culture, and this campaign from Lagunitas definitely fits that mold. Craft beer has always had an artistic side to it—from label design to branding—and turning that artwork into tattoo flash sheets is a pretty creative way to bring fans into the experience.
If you happen to be in one of the participating cities, it might be worth checking out. Free tattoos tied to one of craft beer’s most recognizable brands don’t come around every day.
And of course… if you do end up getting one, you’ll probably want to celebrate with a Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’.
Cheers—and get your beer on. 🍻
