Thoughts On My First Time Attending CBC...Finally

This is a long overdue piece, but time and life always bring surprises, delays, and all kinds of unexpected curveballs. This being said, I am finally getting time to get caught up and share some of the great happenings over the last few months and the first half of the year. This piece is just that, and a big thanks to the Brewers Association for the recent Craft Brewers Conference that took place in Indianapolis from April 28-May 1st this year. Attending the event as a media presence was a great opportunity to get behind the scenes with the many companies that are bringing success to the craft brewing industry. From the breweries to the suppliers and marketers, and all that make it happen…it was a worthwhile experience. I had the honor to meet and talk with some legendary folks from the beer world, and here, just like many of the events that I have been a part of, the beer industry is one of the most welcoming and community-building ones that I have ever seen. MadTree Brewing and Cincinnati Flower Show Create Collaboration Beer

Hortense is a Saison ale brewed with nasturtium flowers and cucumbers

CINCINNATI (April 6, 2016) – MadTree Brewing and the Cincinnati Horticultural Society teamed up to create a special limited edition beer for the Cincinnati Flower Show called Hortense. Hortense is a crisp 5.1% ABV Saison ale brewed with nasturtium and cucumbers. The nasturtium flower, grown locally at Carriage House Farms, provides peppery undertones while the cucumber provides a hint of melon to compliment the fruity notes already present in the beer.

“This was a particularly fun beer to make since it required us to think a bit harder about ingredients that come from a flower garden,” said Jeff Hunt, MadTree Brewing co-founder. “The Saison style of beer is a traditional light and refreshing beer that has been enhanced by the nasturtium and cucumber.”

JW Fleckenstein, Director of The Cincinnati Flower Show, commented, “We are so excited about Hortense and our partnership with MadTree Brewing. This great tasting beer is a perfect fit for the show and helps us offer something special that appeals to a broad spectrum of people including young professionals throughout the Cincinnati area. “

A limited amount of 500ml bottles will first be available for purchase in the MadTree Taproom on Thursday, April 7 at 11AM with a limit of three bottles per person. Representatives from the Flower Show and Spring Fling will be on-site to talk more about the flowers used in Hortense and the many events happening at the show. Hortense bottles will also be available at the Cincinnati Flower Show at Yeatman’s Cove from April 13 – 17.
