Highlights From Visit To Lagunitas Brewing - Chicago Brewery

Hey, what’s happening everybody, back from my trip to Chicago I thought that I would share some of the things that I saw and discussed out at Lagunitas Brewing Company during my visit there. Thanks again to my friend Kyle at Lagunitas for getting me out there, and hope you all enjoy.

Getting My Beer On With Country Boy Knotty Pine IIPA

To my surprise, I had never uploaded a video from Country Boy Brewing located in Lexington, Kentucky and as they say, timing is everything. My recent trip to Lexington had me end up with their Knotty Pine IIPA and now, my first look at one of their brews here on the channel and blog. This Double IPA carries a 9% ABV and apparently only offered at certain times, as it is no longer even listed on their website.

As one could expect, there is a pine feel of the beer, and the hoppy bitterness comes right through as expected. I found it to have a floral presence in the aroma along with some sweetness in the taste; overall, it did have a nice smooth quality. It was not as heady as expected; however, the alcohol was hidden nicely as it did not come across boozy at all. It definitely has the ability to sneak up on those that enjoy a few of these. A nice brew in my opinion, and check out the video to hear and see more and if you have had it then drop a comment below to let me know your thoughts on this one.

Getting My Cool Beer On | NewAir AB-850B Review

Okay, here is my last video in the series on the NewAir AB-850B beverage cooler, which I received from the company so that I could provide a review and thanks again Cher Castro for reaching out. Overall, I found the cooler to be solid thus far. I do like the look of it with the black acrylic siding and the led light adds a nice touch as it provides a good amount of lighting, which reflects nicely in the cooler. The temperature control is nice, as one can easily know where to adjust it for the desired temperatures to be sought. However, it would be nice if it had a built-in thermometer in the cooler but this can be overcome by just grabbing something like a meat thermometer and placing it inside on one of the shelves. This worked well for me and allowed a consisting setting of the right temperature.

Having adjustable shelves made the cooler easy to customize for how I wanted to set it up, and something to be cautious of is whether you have more cans or bottles and how you want to use it. Bottles will obviously cut down space but still, I was able to fill up at about 55 bottles and cans in the cooler but did have to leave a rack out. Some will stack bottles on the side; I personally do not recommend that especially with craft beers that may have sediment. They should be stored upright, so that needs to be kept in mind. In addition, of course, if you are placing 22-ounce or even larger bottles then again, space will be impacted for sure.

However, taking all of this into mind, the cooler is nice overall and is not heavy on energy; expect a cost of about $60 a year to run it. Also, the noise factor is pretty low as well so no matter where you place the cooler, there should not be an issue with this. If you are looking for somewhere to store your beverages and keep cool, this one thus far definitely passes the test thus far. Also, there is a 1-year warranty on the product, which I would like to see at least a 2-year or 3-year as a 1-year seems a little outdated for something like this for me, but time will tell. Getting My Beer On With Falls City Hipster Repellant IPA

A business trip down to the Lexington Area means a business trip where I can also find some local brews to sample, thus Hipster Repellant IPA from Falls City Beer was one that caught my eye by the design of the can. Falls City is based out of Louisville and this American IPA carries an ABV of 6.8% and an IBU level of 65. This is one that I had previously according to my Untappd check-ins but had not done a review and it is funny as we grow our universe how thoughts of beers change. Back when I first had it, I definitely ranked it higher than now.

This being said, I still found it to be a decent IPA providing the qualities expected of this style with the aroma as well as taste. There was that little medicinal flavor that can often be picked up with IPAs, but not to a point of being off-putting. There was a good amount of hoppiness and bitterness that accompanying the beer, and flavor wised there were those common notes of orange and tangerines. There was also a slight metallic taste from the can and I would classify a syrupy feel to the texture. The beer was dry on the finish like many of this style, but there was also sweetness from the malts as well. But overall, it was a decent enough IPA that I would say would satisfy a good amount of IPA fans. Check out the video to see and hear more of my thoughts on this one, and if you have had it then leave a comment letting me know what you thought of this ale.
